Pakistani police say attackers have thrown a hand grenade near a Shiite mosque in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, killing a 13-year-old boy and wounding 12 other people.
Karachi police spokesman Sohail Jokhio said today the attackers escaped on a motorcycle after throwing the hand grenade near the mosque where a congregation was in progress.
Jokhio said four women and three children were among the wounded. They had been heading to the main gate of the mosque, located in a densely populated area of central Karachi.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but the banned organization Lashker-e-Jhangvi has claimed most past attacks on Shiite Muslims in Pakistan.
Shiites are currently commemorating the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad during Islamic month of Muharram.
