Akbar Sheikh, a TMC member of the Berenda gram panchayat was not at home when the incident happened. Local residents said the house was badly damaged due to the blast. The injured have been identified as Hashnuhena Bibi, Akbar's wife and Ajmera Biwi, his daughter-in-law and have been admitted to the hospital.
"An incident has happened in Joykrishnapur and a police team has been sent there to investigate the matter," said Burdwan district Police Superintendent Gaurav Sharma.
"I was not at home when the incident happened. I was told that a person had come to my house and handed a bag to my wife, which blew off later," he said.
No one has been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
