An Assistant Regional Transport Officer, arrested for taking bribe in April, has now been booked in a disproportionate assets case along with his wife, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said today.
Separate cases were today filed against Rajendra Nerkar (52), the RTO officer who is currently on bail, and his wife Pratibha (44) for amassing illegal wealth, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACB) Vishwas Nangare Patil said.
Rajendra was attached to Motor Vehicles Department in suburban Andheri.
The Nerkar couple has been found to possess movable and immovable assets worth Rs 1.16 crore, which is Rs 99.12 lakh in excess to their known sources of income, he said.
ACB on April 19 arrested Rajendra and a middleman, Jaiprakash Salvi, for allegedly accepting a Rs 1,500 bribe from a private bus operator for completing some official work.
A search at Rajendra's home at suburban Mulund had then led to the seizure of Rs 84 lakh in cash. Accordingly, Rajendra and Salvi were booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, police said.
"Further probe into the case revealed the Nerkar couple owned movable and immovable assets worth Rs 1.16 crore. Going by the actual income of Rajendra, his family should not have assets valued to such an extent," Patil said.
