Planting bomb:police granted 2 day custody to question accused

A local court today granted police two-day custody to interrogate an accused who was arrested after being on the run for 17 years in connection with planting a bomb in a commercial complex here.
Shahjahan was arrested yesterday. Eleven others, who were nabbed in December 1997, were acquitted in 2009 after trial.
The Special Investigation Division of CB-CID had submitted a petition before the Fourth Judicial magistrate court yesterday, seeking custody of the man for interrogation.
When the case came up for hearing today, the Magistrate, Deepa granted police two-day custody of Shahjahan.
A special court is expected to try Shahjahan separately, police said.

Shahjahan was wanted in a case for planting a bomb in an apartment complex on December 1 1997, along with some members of banned Al Umma allegedly to take revenge for the killing 18 Muslim youths in the aftermath of the murder of constable R Selvaraj in November that year.
