BSNL will lay 2700-km of cable to improve services in Assam

For better network and connectivity, the BSNL Assam Telecom Circle plans to lay 2,747 km cable to cover 1,010 gaon panchayats (GP) in 91 blocks and 19 districts of Assam.
"Under the National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) Project we have planned to lay 2,747 km of cable to cover 1,010 gaon panchayats (GP) in 91 blocks and 19 districts of Assam", BSNL Assam Telecom Circle Chief General Manager M K Seth said here.
"As on date we have already laid 1,850 PLB pipes and more than 1,570 km of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) completing more than 200 GPs for very high-speed data services," he said at a at a press conference .
For improving the services various new equipment have been used and 10,000 Lines Next Generation Network (NGN) equipment will be used in phased manner at Dispur, Noonmati and Dharapur Exchanges in Guwahati and nearby areas, Seth said.
"Further in phase-II we have planned 23750 lines NGN exchange which will be delivered within one month," he added.
In future, fixed mobile convergence work will be undertaken to sort out spectrum problem, the CGM said.
"We are to exploit fully 10 GBPS link between Guwahati to Chennai Gateway directly for better broadband services through PGCIL media due to heavy damage of our OFC.
"Also we are to exploit 2.5 GB between Guwahati to Agartala new International Gateway," Seth added.
"For making Assam the number one Telecom Circle, we have planned 7 Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) routers to be installed at headquarters of each Secondary Switching Areas (SSA) of Assam Circle within a month.
It will provide better and stable Internet Protocol (IP) based services like broadband, lease line, NGN and mobile data services to customers of Assam Circle", he said.
Stating 10,500 new Landline connections and 9,000 new Broadband connection were provided during the current financial year, the CGM said, "We have procured Fibre to the Home (FTTH) to provide high speed data to all the feasible places.
125 FTTH connections provided in Kamrup SSA.
Promotional offer for disconnected broadband customers have also been made offering free installation, free one month fixed mobile convergence (FMC) and free 500 On-net calls.
Free installation charges for new Landline, Broadband and FTTH customers with Free WiFi BSNL Broadband Modem at Rs 100 cash back in monthly bills up to 15 months for new broadband connections were the other services on offer, Seth added.
