Of the total 475 airports/airstrips in the country, 125 are owned and managed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the draft civil aviation policy 2015 envisages revival of unserved and under-served airstrips by AAI, state governments or through PPP mode depending on feasibility, in reply to questions.
"There are large number of airstrips in the country managed by different agencies. However, wherever it is commercially viable, government is trying to make those places operative,"he said replying to supplementaries in Rajya Sabha.
Raju said "Generally there are non operational airports in the country and our government is trying to see that these become operationalise as soon as possible."
To a question on making Bathinda airport operational, the Minister said "these are airports on which operations can take place. Like Bathinda, we are trying to motivate airlines to make use of them. If they see an opportunity they will make use of it."
