"We had some time back submitted proposal for financial assistance of Rs 50 crore for modernisation and upgradation projects at the centre and DoNER has now sanctioned it," Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre general secretary D P Roy said.
The Cachar Cancer Hospital, based at Meherpur in Cachar district, is one the major cancer care institute of the region and receives patients from different states of the North East as well as Myanmar.
Roy said that priority "is the acquisition of vital machines and equipments in order to provide better treatment to the patients."
He said among the instruments and machines to be installed in the hospital include linear accelerator with all accessories, MRI scanner and gamma camera.
Besides, the hospital would go for infrastructure development and expansion of its building, he said.
