Carnatic singer selected for Sangita Kalanidhi Award

Renowned carnatic singer Sanjay Subrahmanyan will be honoured with the Sangita Kalanidhi Award of the Music Academy.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the Executive Committee here, said President N Murali, adding, Subrahmanyan will also preside over the 89th Annual Conference of the Academy slated between December 15 and January 1, next year.
"At the young age of 47, he (Subrahmanyam), joins the illustrious line of stalwarts who had received this coveted award before they turned 50 like Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, ML Vasanthakumari and M Balamuralikrishna, among others," Murali said.
The Committee has also decided to confer other awards during the concert, such as Sangita Kala Acharya and TTK Awards.
