Speaking to reporters at Vedaranyam near here, he said former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had announced in the Assembly in 2015 that the plant would be set up in Vedaranyam and added that the government was giving shape to her announcement.
Manian further said that the plant would come up in 571 acres of land at Thennadar village in Vedaranyam.
"Along with Nagapattinam district Collector S Pazhaniswamy, I inspected a few sites for the proposed plant. The location would be finalised soon," he added.
"A detailed environment impact assessment has already been made and experts have said that the proposed plant will not cause any harm to the environment," he said and claimed that it would provide direct and indirect employment to over 30,000 people.
