CBI files three charge sheets in NRHM case

CBI has filed three separate charge sheets against senior officials of Uttar Pradesh Health Department and private companies for alleged irregularities in the National Rural Health Mission.
The agency filed charge sheets at the court of special judge in Ghaziabad for FIRs related to anomalies in the implementation of NRHM in the district of Agra.
In the first case, CBI has charged then Chief Medical Officer (Family Welfare) V K Srivastava, Deputy CMO Sanjay Kashiwala and Sanjay Awasthi, proprietor of Lucknow-based private pharma firm V S Pharma.
The agency has slapped charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and Provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act against them.
"The case was...Against District Health officials of Agra and a private firm on the allegations of mis-utilization of a sum of Rs.15.6 lakhs (approx) under NRHM funds in the purchase of medicines like Albendazole and Iron Folic Acid tablets at exorbitant rates through false and forged quotations even though the medicine was available at cheaper rate and even on Rate Contract also," CBI spokesperson said here today.
In the second case, CBI has named Srivastava, Pharmacist Subhash Chandra Baghel and Neeraj Verma (authorized signatory) of Allahabad-based private company S Tech Surgicals under similar charges.
