Property consultant CBRE today said that corporates need to effectively manage the available physical workplace to save on cost and improving business as well as employee performance.
"In today's scenario, organisations are under pressure to drive down costs by increasing the 'static density', or the space per sq ft dedicated for each workstation," said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman, India & South East Asia, CBRE.
Workplace density and space utilisation are becoming critical for corporate occupiers in taking real estate decisions and managing their real estate as a strategic asset, he said in a statement.
Magazine was speaking at a conference on Infrastructure Management organised by CBRE and CII.
"A recent CBRE report found that the range of underutilised space in the key metro cities ranges between 27 and 58 per cent, which presents organisation an opportunity to make changes in their existing physical workspace to maximise work space utilisation and drive down cost," Magazine said in a statement.
He said that it is time for organisations to take stock of the current situation, rethink density, utilisations and work towards effectively managing the available space and build a business case for change.
"This will not only help save cost but help in improving business and employee performance," he said.
Speaking at the event, MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who is also member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Urban Development said, "We need more women town planners in India as they bring a different perspective to infrastructure management.
