Around 400 inmates of Central jail refused to eat breakfast this morning and went on hunger strike demanding better food and medical for them, East Godavari district sub-collector B Radhakrishna said.
The inmates also demanded an immediate transfer of jail superintendent N Nutan.
They alleged that jail superintendent harasses the inmates, he said, adding, they also demanded that ill prisoners should be taken to hospitals for better treatment and also the food for them should be cooked on gas stoves instead on wood.
DIG (prison) Narasimham, district collector Neetu Prasad also visited the jail and met the inmates today.
