Central team to inspect infrastructure in ayurveda

A three-member committee of the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) visited the government-run Kaviraj Ananta Tripathy Sharma (KATS) Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Ankushapur, here to inspect the available infrastructure.
The committee, which visited Ankushpur yesterday, will submit its report to the department of Ayush, under the Union ministry of health and family welfare.
The ministry would then decide whether the college may be allowed to admit students to a degree course of Ayurved Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).
The CCIM is equivalent to the Medical Council of India (MCI) for ayurvedic medical colleges.
"We will submit our inspection report after returning from here. The college has several facilities. At the same time, there is room for improvement," said Prajapati Tripathy, a professor at the Dayanand Ayurved College and Hospital, Siwan, Bihar, and member of CCIM team.

During the two-day visit, the team would inspect infrastructure facilities and inflow of patients to the hospital and talk to teaching and non-teaching staff, sources said.

The 36-year-old ayurveda college has 28 teachers at present, against the total strength of 35. This includes three professors, nine readers and 16 lecturers.
The college also has a three-acre herbal garden with medicinal plants and a mini-pharmacy to produce ayurvedic medicines. It has a 100-bed hospital which has average daily occupancy of 60 to 70.
"We hope CCIM will be satisfied with the available infrastructure and allow us to carry out admissions in time," said principal Sudarsan Behera.
