The Centre has prepared a comprehensive plan for a campaign for ensuring maximum utilisation of water in view of decreasing availability of water.
Under the 'Jal Kranti' campaign, 'Jal Gram Yojana' will be launched in which at least one village from each of 672 districts in the country with acute water shortage would be selected as 'Jal Gram' and maximum water utilisation would be ensured in it, a senior officer of the Ministry of Water Resources said.
The increasing demand of water needs to be addressed as availability of water per person is decreasing every year in the view of increasing population combined with the impact of climate change, he said.
A district level committee would be formed for selection of 'Jal Gram' and execution of the scheme, he said.
An index value would be provided to every village on the basis of demand and availability of water and village with maximum difference in the value would be included in the Abhiyan.
Locals involved in water related vocations would be trained to be 'Jal Mitra' who would spread awareness about water related issues, he said.
Woman panchayat members would be encouraged to become 'Jal Mitra' and a water health card would be prepared which would provide information about quality of water source annually.
The Ministry will prepare development schemes for every village on the basis of report by block level committees taking in view the water sources, quantity, quality and estimated demand, he said.
Under the scheme, water bodies would be renovated and new ones would be constructed.
Works like water conservation, recycling of waste water, public awareness for active participation of farmers, micro irrigation, community based water monitoring would be under the purview of the scheme.
