Former RSS leader K N Govindacharya on Saturday hit out at the Centre stating the government’s focus was on “land acquisition” rather than the five crore homeless people of the country.

“The Union government should focus on addressing the basic needs of people in the country along with other works,” he said, addressing a conclave organised by vernacular daily Rajasthan Patrika here.

The social worker noted that there were talks of making smart cities and bullet train projects in the country but in reality, people are not getting pure drinking water.

“The nation will prosper by collective efforts of all and not just by GDP,” Govindacharya said.

Noted lawyer and former Union minister Ram Jethmalani laid stress upon fulfilling vacant posts of judges in various courts of the country.

“Judges’ appointment process needs to be improved further. Around 80,000 judges should be appointed so that legal works can be executed perfectly,” he said.

Jethmalani also expressed disappointment with Centre’s move to ban BBC documentary ‘India’s Daughter’ on 2012 Delhi gang rape.

RTI activist Nutan Thakur highlighted the issue of security of rights activists’ in the country. She alleged that activists not only have to deal with false and derogatory allegations but also threats on political levels.
