A group of minor children playing cricket in the Police Training School ground were detained for five hours at a police station here after the IG posted at the school ordered that they be arrested for using the premises.
The six children were released only after being counselled by the policemen to keep away from the ground and on the intervention of their parents.
The incident took place on Friday when some children were playing in the ground of the PTS and were caught by I.G B R Mina, who is posted at the school, during an inspection.
Riled by their presence on the ground, he ordered that they be arrested. While some children managed to run away, six of them were caught and sent to civil lines police station for further action.
Inspector Civil Lines Brham Pal Singh said six children were detained on the complaint of the IG P.T.S
A written complaint was sent by Mina demanding that the children be arrested but no action has taken against the detained children because all of them were minors, he said.
ASP (Rural) Moradabad Sujata Singh said no action was possible against the children as they were juveniles but they were counselled not to come to the P.T.S area as their games were interrupting in the police training.
Mina was not available for comment.
