Members of the Synod Executive Committee, the second highest decision-making authority of the Presbyterian Church of India in Mizoram, today informed law-makers that the Church wanted continuation of Prohibition in the state.
The SEC members, in writing, conveyed the stance of the Church to the legislators, SEC Moderator Rev. C. Lalhmuchhuaka said after a meeting with all 40 legislators.
"The meeting was held under cordial atmosphere and it was mainly to felicitate the newly elected legislators by church leaders," Superintendent if the Synod Robert S. Halliday told PTI.
Meanwhile, official sources said that the state government was making efforts to ensure that the Mizoram Excise Bill, 2014 drafted to replace the Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1995 was introduced in the Assembly during A session beginning from March 18.
The draft bill was sent to the state law department for vetting after which it would go to the state cabinet before being introduced in the state legislature.
