Congress MP Karan Singh today said citizens were aware of the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution but were not conscious of their duties and responsibilities towards society.
Singh said it comes from education which dispels ignorance, transmits knowledge and liberates the mind.
He was delivering the second memorial lecture in honour of former Union minister Arjun Singh at the Nehru Memorial Museum Auditorium here.
Singh spoke about 'Four pillars of learning'--learning to know, to do, to live together and to be.
He termed the second pillar--learning to do--as 'karma yog'. He said there was severe mismatch between education and the capacity to do and stressed on revisiting the Indian education system and setting up of ITI's for providing skill training to empower the youth.
Singh said all religions should be adopted and respected.
The memorial lecture was organised by the Arjun Singh Sadbhavana Foundation in association with Madhya Pradesh Foundation.
Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, former Union unister Kamal Nath, SP leader Amar Singh and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia were among those present at the programme.
