The authorities rusticated two students, suspended four girls and banned entry of five students involved in the violence.
Kapil, a Sanskrit Department scholar, was injured in the clashes at the Jammu University Campus today, University officials said.
He received multiple injuries and was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, they said.
Police arrested two students involved in the attack.
Some students had locked the University main gate demanding setting up of centre for Gojri studies. Other students got angry with their action and clashed with the protesting students as they were not able to enter the university premises.
He said four girl students have been suspended and five students have been banned from entering the university premises till the pendency of the inquiry.
