CM, Cabinet ministers sitting on dharna looks absurd: Badal

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today deplored the action of his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers of holding 'dharna', saying it is "absurd" and against the spirit of the Constitution.
"Dharna by a person, who is chief minister, is against the spirit of the Constitution. It looks absurd that the chief minister and his cabinet is resorting to such steps," he said.
For issues like registration of an FIR in a case, workers can sit on 'dharna' but it looks "absurd" that the chief minister and his cabinet is resorting to such steps, the Akali stalwart told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Mohali near here.

"I think his (Kejriwal's) action may be the first such case in the history of the country," he said.
Kejriwal and his ministers today began a 'dharna' outside Rail Bhavan in New Delhi demanding action against police officials who refused to carry out a raid on an alleged drug and prostitution racket in South Delhi last week.
On the issue of Punjab Congress demanding CBI probe into multi-crore drug racket unearthed by police in the state, Badal ruled out a probe by the agency, claiming that "the CBI is a government agency."

He said that Punjab Congress is devoid of agenda and only priority of that party is sitting on 'dharna' or staging protests without any valid reasons.

When asked about the allegations levelled by alleged drug smuggler Jagdish Singh Bhola against Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia of being involved in the case, Badal said that "Congress in Punjab is relying on a statement made by a criminal who is facing several cases."
"Tomorrow he (Bhola) may take my (Badal's) name," he said adding that the present drug case is being probed under the supervision of DGP Sumedh Singh Saini.
He said that those found guilty in this case would not be spared and will be given stern punishment.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Congress leaders continued their "relay indefinite hunger strike" at party headquaters here for the second day today demanding CBI probe into the drug case and registration of case against Majithia and his dismissal from the Cabinet.
