"Coast Guard Chief Vice Admiral M P Muralidharan brought to notice of all share holders the various threats to offshore security and the resultant need to enhance preparedness," Coast Guard said in a release.
The Coast Guard DG was chairing the 119th meeting of the Offshore Security Co-ordination Committee (OSCC) which includes security agencies including the Intelligence Bureau, Navy, Air Force and the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.
Several oil rigs and various other important installations are based off-shore. Their security is the responsibility of coastal security agencies.
The OSSC meets every three months to review the threat perception and the steps to be taken to neutralise such threats.
The Defence Ministry has take several steps to strengthen coastal security after the 26/11 terror attack and has granted projects worth several thousand crore to enhance the capability and capacity of the maritime agency to take on such tasks.
