An ailing sailor on board a Japanese Merchant Navy ship was rescued by the Indian Coast Guard off Goa coast.
The crew member on the Japanese ship was rescued 11 nautical miles off Goa coast yesterday, Deputy Inspector General, Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Manoj Badkar said.
The sailor, Alberto Sorrano, had fractured his hand after a fall.
He was air-lifted and brought to Vasco where he is currently undergoing treatment, he said.
Badkar said the ICG Goa was informed about the emergency by marine rescue coordination centre at Mumbai.
The ship 'Mubaraz', a liquefied natural gas carrier, had left a Japanese port to go to the UAE.
