Kinshu Arora, the student, and his friends Dinesh and a minor boy were caught from Vasant Vihar during a checking yesterday, Deputy Commissioner Chhaya Sharma said. With this, police claimed they have solved six snatching cases.
"During searches, key of a Vokaswagon vehicle was recovered from Arora. He could not provide any satisfactory answer. He was questioned and he confessed that he and his associate Siddharth snatched a bag ten days ago and got the key of the vehicle along with a brand new laptop," she said.
Arora told police that he was the gang leader and was addicted to gambling. "He has huge debts to pay. He also stole his grandfather's ATM card and withdrew Rs 2.5 lakh and spent it in gambling," Sharma said.
"They allegedly wanted to gain fast and easy money to gamble and indulged in snatchings. They used to roam around Delhi on their motor cycles to allegedly identify a soft target and resort to snatching", she said.
"After snatching, they immediately escaped from the spot on their motor cycles. They disclosed their involvement in more than 12 incidents of snatchings. A total of six cases have been worked out so far and further investigation is on to probe into their other involvements and recovery of more stolen properties," she said.
Two motorcycles, a Volkaswagon car key, a laptop, seven mobile phones and two wrist watches, a leather purse and a pair of trousers and a shirt purchased using a snatched ATM card were allegedly recovered from them.
