Ahead of the 2017 assembly polls, former Goa minister Sangita Parab has rejoined the Congress.
Parab, along with her social worker son Sachin were admitted to the party fold at a function held yesterday at Mandrem constituency, represented by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
Parab, a Congress minister, had left the party a decade ago and had remained without any political affiliation. Her son Sachin has been on the forefront of social activities in Mandrem constituency.
"I have joined back Congress for the sake of the state. It is high time that people should lobby with Congress for better government post 2017 polls," Sangita said.
"The Opposition against BJP has united together. Mandrem is a crucial constituency for any party as sitting Chief Minister belongs from here," Sachin told reporters before joining the party.
Interestingly, Parab duo had campaigned for Parsekar in 2012 assembly elections in support of BJP.
Sachin said the inefficiency of BJP to rule the state has brought all the Opposition on one platform.
"It is not just about politics. The ethos of people from the state who are against the BJP should reflect in Mandrem constituency. People have decided to weed out BJP from the state and they will do it in 2012 polls," he said.
Sachin said the rulers have outrightly sold Goa to outsiders.
