Raising the issue at a Standing Committee meeting, Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Goyal charged the BJP-ruled corporation with failing to use funds for appointment of security guards in schools and alleged the security measures were completely inadequate.
"A sum of Rs 4.6 lakhs was set aside for guards in the year 2012-13 but it has not been used till date," Goyal said in a written statement submitted to the committee chairman.
"Even CCTV cameras are not in place. Considering the fact that both the Mayor and the head of the education committee in NDMC are women, this incident becomes all the more embarrassing for the civic body. I demand that both of these leaders take moral responsibility for the incident and resign," Goyal said.
The municipal body had come under severe crticism following the rape of a seven-year-old inside a school in Mangolpuri on March 1.
