Congress today attacked Aam Aadmi Party for Shazia Ilmi's remarks that Muslims should become "communal" for their own good when they vote this time and not be "too secular", alleging AAP has "scant regard for the Constitution and for the law".
"Shazia Ilmi, even in the past, had made a spoof of a senior person like Home Minister of India. Mr Kejriwal's party, after all after his own admission party, is a party of anarchists", Congress spokesman Randeep Surejwala said.
AAP "has scant regard for the constitution, for the law, for the political process and polity per se. So, we expect them to say sensational purely with a view to remaining in the media glare as also to stay afloat", he said.
In a video which surfaced today, Ilmi said Muslims' votes split as they were "too secular" and they "should become communal" and vote keeping in mind "our own interest".
Arvind Kejriwal-headed Aam Aadmi party(AAP) ticked Ilmi off and distanced itself from the controversial remarks, saying it does not endorse her views. However, Ilmi stood by her comments, which, she said is "play of words".
