Under strict supervision of Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Congress in Bihar has decided to make itself strong at booth level for fighting the 2014 general elections.
"A 10-member booth committee will be soon formed across the state so that Congress candidate in any constituency gets a base of dedicated party workers at the grassroot level," the new PCC Chief Ashok Chaudhary told PTI.
Chaudhary, a choice of Rahul Gandhi to head party organisation in politically crucial Bihar state, has been meeting district presidents and party leaders who had contested last Assembly elections to constitute a strong booth committee comprising of dedicated and efficient party workers.
"The entire exercise is being carried out under strict monitoring of Rahuljee," Chaudhary said, adding, the AICC Vice President will be taking progress report every three month.
Chaudhary said the party leadership has decided to "dump" leaders who belief in "tokenism" in politics and encourage grassroot leaders.
"Some leaders belief in tokenism and become active only at the time of elections. Such leaders will have no place in the Congress organisation," he said.
With only two Lok Sabha members and four in state Assembly, resurrecting Congress in Bihar is a big challenge for Chaudhary, who served as a minister in the RJD-Congress government in the state in the past.
On the direction of Rahul Gandhi, Congress has severed ties with RJD of Lalu Prasad in Bihar. It contested 2010 Assembly elections in the state alone and the party strength slided from 10 MLAs to four in the 243-member Bihar house in the last assembly elections.
