Cong welcomes rail link to Katra

Congress today welcomed the rail link to Katra in Jammu and Kashmir inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but reminded that the project was completed during the UPA regime.
The party said the railway track from Udhampur to Katra could not be inaugurated as the elections were going on in the country.
"The project has been very close to the heart of Congress President Sonia Gandhi. She had taken personal interest to ensure that the project is completed during the Congress regime, which happened.
"Due to elections, it could not be inaugurated, which the Prime Minister did today," party spokesperson Randip Surjewala told reporters at the AICC briefing.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said in his tweet," I hope Modi doesn't forget all those who made it possible, particularly the effort made by the UPA Govt."
In another tweet, he said, "Connecting Jammu with Srinagar by rail is one of the most challenging Engineering Feat. Kudos to all those who are making it possible."
The Katra-Udhampur section is a part of ambitious 326km long Udhampur-Katra-Quazigund-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line project of Northern Railway.
