Contesting assembly polls is not important for me: Vaghela

Senior Gujarat Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela today said he was not keen on contesting the upcoming state assembly polls to be held later this year.
Responding to a query by reporters about his choice of constituency from where he would want to contest the polls, the 77-year-old former chief minister said he had contested enough number of elections in his life and it no longer held importance for him.
"I have contested many elections in my life. Now, time has come to fight for the problems faced by the people of Gujarat. Contesting assembly or Lok Sabha polls is not important for me," he told reporters in Bayad town of Arvalli district.

Meanwhile, Vaghela today 'un-followed' Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and many other party leaders from his Twitter account.
The developments came on the day when the state Congress organised its IT Cell conference here, which saw the presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel and many other senior leaders from the state.
In March, Vaghela, who is the Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly, had claimed he was not in the race for the chief minister's post for the state assembly elections.
Last month, 36 out of a total of 57 Congress MLAs had demanded that Vaghela be made the party's CM face if Congress wanted to win the polls.

However, party in-charge for Gujarat, Ashok Gehlot, had recently ruled out naming a chief ministerial candidate ahead of the state assembly elections.
