Cop gets two years jail in a bribery case

A special court here today sentenced a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Police to two years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a 2008 bribery case.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the SI R Chandra Kiran Reddy, attached to Humayun Nagar Police Station.
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court Judge Hari Krishna Bhupathi pronounced the judgement in the case registered against the Sub-Inspector who was apprehended by ACB officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 to help a complainant in a criminal case.
When he was trapped, Reddy swallowed the bribe amount to conceal the evidence. The ACB officials took him to Osmania General Hospital and got the currency notes removed from his abdomen and produced the same as evidence, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB-Hyderabad Range) J Ashok Kumar said.
The SI was found guilty and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and asked to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 for demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.
In addition, he was also sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 for abusing his official position and obtaining pecuniary advantage.
"He was also sentenced to simple imprisonment for a period of ten days and asked to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 for concealing the evidence by swallowing the bribe amount," the DSP said adding all the sentences will run concurrently.
