A police head constable was arrested today for allegedly molesting a woman hawker in a suburban train while being on duty.
The incident took place when the woman, a hawker by profession, was travelling in the Khopoli-Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus local last night, a statement by the DCP of Government Railway Police (GRP), Mumbai said.
As the train reached Diva station, the constable who was on duty asked the woman why she was travelling without a ticket after which an altercation broke out between the two, it added.
After this, the cop molested the woman. GRP personnel at Mumbra, the next station, intervened and rescued the woman, it said.
The GRP has arrested the head constable and a case under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) has been registered in this connection, they said, adding investigations are underway.
