"R G Solapure, attached to Durgapur police station, has been suspended till further inquiry for his failure to file a charge sheet before a local court in the rape case involving a minor girl," SP Rajiv Jain said.
The suspension came following a preliminary report submitted by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dr Raju Bhujbal on directions of the SP against Solapure.
The report indicted Solapure of dereliction of duty for failing to file the charge sheet in stipulated time period in connection with the alleged rape of a four-year-old girl from Kitadi village on September 20, 2012.
A local organisation yesterday accused Durgapur police, under whose jurisdiction the crime had taken place, of inaction in this regard, resulting in a local court granting bail to the accused Sukhdeo Sao (52).
