Tehsildar M M Virani said that Kisan Govinda Balki, a farmer, found the pot in his field during a tilling yesterday morning.
Virani, accompanied by the police, visited his house and took the coins in custody.
Virani said that there were in all 2,604 copper coins weighing a total of 35 kg. The inscription on them seemed to be in Urdu or Arabic.
They would be handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), he said.
