The Corporation officials, in their inspection at Choolaimedu High Road area found that 49 shops had in their possesion about 27 kilos of plastic bags below 40 microns intended for commercial use. The plastic bags were seized.
"No person shall manufacutre, stock, distribute or sell any carry bag made of virgin or recycled or compostable plastic, which is less than 40 microns in thickness," an official said quoting Plastic Waste (Mangement and Handling Rules) 2011. The drive would continue, he added.
