Tea production in the April-July period in 2013-14 was at 470.83 million kg, according to Tea Board of India data.
The combined output of Assam and West Bengal and other north Indian states fell to 355.60 million kg from 384.37 million kg during the period under review.
Assam and West Bengal are the major tea-producing states, accounting for almost 80 per cent of India's total output.
However, the tea production in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka rose to 95.99 million kg from 86.46 million kg during the period under review.
India is the world's second-largest producer and biggest consumer of tea.
