"Unless girls come forward with good education, till then the country and society cannot progress and this has been the thinking of SP," Mulayam said here while addressing students at a programme on the occasion of his 77th birthday today.
Mulayam said that to promote girls' education, the SP government made it free till class XII and provided several other facilities.
The SP supremo said that the party fulfilled all the promises made with the people, it made education cheaper, irrigation free and waived off the loans of the farmers.
The other parties make promises at the time of elections, but later forget them, he said.
He appealed to the students to complete their medical education, become able doctors and serve poor and people.
