The couple was sleeping outside their house in Chiraiya village under Mankapur police station when the high tension wire passing over them fell, District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Upadhaya said.
Hearing the cries, their five children, who were sleeping inside, rushed to rescue them of which three suffered serious burn injuries, the DM said.
The deceased were identified as Uma Shankar (50), his wife Saroj (45) and their children Seema (16) and Ravi (10).
The district administration has extended an ex gratia of Rs one lakh each to the next of kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 each for those injured.
