A Delhi court has sentenced two men, convicted of possessing and supplying ganja, to varying jail terms already undergone by them.
Special NDPS Judge Anuradha Shukla Bharadwaj held Delhi residents Ravi Singh and Ram Babu guilty under provision of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for possessing over one kg ganja each and sentenced them to jail terms of six months and four months, respectively.
"...Both accused maintained that they intend to plead guilty and stated that they have not been convicted under a case of NDPS Act earlier and that they shall not indulge in unlawful activities in the future.
"There is material on record that from the search of both the accused, 1300 gms and 1450 gms of ganja was recovered," the judge said while relying on the forensic report and the confession made by the accused.
According to the prosecution, the police got a tip-off that Ravi and Ram were going to supply ganja near Ambedkar Park here in the wee hours of October 2, 2013.
A raiding team, with the help of a secret informer, nabbed the duo and recovered ganja from the polythene bags in their pockets.
The accused were arrested and charges were framed against them under NDPS Act, to which they pleaded not guilty.
They, however, admitted to the crime later during trial and sought leniency from the court, saying they have already spent months in jail and had no previous criminal record.
