CPI today approached the Election Commission (EC) over BJP chief Amit Shah's "firecrackers in Pakistan" remark and demanded the poll watchdog to take immediate appropriate action against him.
A delegation of CPI leaders comprising party general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy and national secretary D Raja made an official complaint with the EC over alleged violation of model code of conduct in Bihar by Shah.
"The delegation demanded action against Shah for his provocative words while addressing an election meeting at Raxaul in East Champaran on October 29. The leaders submitted an official complaint to the Commission," the CPI said in a statement.
The CPI also pointed, the three Commissioners, towards West Bengal BJP leader Joy Banerjee allegedly saying that the EC was under control of the NDA major.
Banerjee had reportedly made the statement during a public rally in West Bengal's Birbhum on September 20.
In their joint letter to EC, Reddy and Raja maintained Shah's speech was "highly provocative and meant to polarise voters on communal lines".
"We, therefore, urge upon the Election Commission to take serious note and initiate urgent and appropriate action on Amit Shah and the BJP," the letter said.
Addressing an election rally in Bihar's Raxaul yesterday, Shah had said that there will be bursting of fire crackers in Pakistan if his party loses the polls in Bihar.
"Do you want the return of Jungle Raaj-2? If by any mistake BJP loses, victory and defeat may be in Bihar but fire crackers will go off in Pakistan. Do you want crackers being burst in Pakistan?" he had said.
