"The National Council of CPI expresses its deep condolences at the demise of comrade Jagjit Singh Anand, veteran freedom fighter and its senior leader from Punjab," the communist outfit said.
Ex-CPI National Council member, Anand had joined communist movement in the 1930s. After partition he settled down in Amritsar in Punjab, the party said.
"Anand was a great organiser and since 1953 he went around the state building party in almost all the districts. He was a popular and fearless journalist. He fought against the Khalistani attacks. He was a powerful Parliamentarian and made good contributions during his tenure in Rajya Sabha," the party said.
