Expressing concern over "growing signs" of hatred and use of violence against dissenting individuals and groups in the country, CPI(M) today asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take measures against those violating law.
Referring to a incidents like attacks on JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, AAP functionary Soni Sori and two policemen in Maharashtra's Latur district, the party said the overall atmosphere in the country smacks of "intolerance and hatred" and "emboldened" the perpetrators.
"Particularly disturbing is the inaction, complicity and failure to apprehend the perpetrators by law enforcement agencies," the party said.
It demanded the central government, particularly the Prime Minister, initiate measures to stop such blatant violations of law and Constitutional principles".
The JNUSU president was attacked by a group of lawyers inside Patiala House Court complex here last week.
In another incident three days ago, unidentified men had hurled acid-like chemical on tribal activist and AAP leader Sori in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district.
On February 20, a mob had allegedly beaten up Assistant Sub-inspector Yunus Shaikh (57) and manhandled his colleague K Awaskar for preventing it from putting up a flag at a "sensitive" spot in Pangaon village of Latur during celebrations of Shiv Jayanti (birth anniversary of King Shivaji) a day earlier.
