Barring stray incidents of stone pelting, the situation largely remained peaceful in Kashmir today as authorities lifted curfew in four districts and some parts of the city after two weeks of violence in the Valley that claimed 45 lives and left over 3,400 people injured.
"The situation across Kashmir remained by and large peaceful with no untoward incident reported from anywhere," a police official said.
He said stray incidents of stone pelting were reported from a few places but the miscreants were chased away by the cops deployed on law and order duty.
Curfew was lifted from Bandipora, Baramulla, Budgam and Ganderbal districts and some parts of Srinagar city in view of the improving situation in these areas.
However, restrictions on assembly of four or more people under Section 144 CrPC will continue in the areas where curfew has been lifted, he said.
Curfew remained in force in Anantnag, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama and Shopian districts of the Valley and eight police station areas of the city.
The authorities also relaxed curfew in parts of Old city late in the evening but people took to streets at many places to protest against the recent killings in the Valley.
Most of the schools in these districts remained closed as parents chose not to send their wards due to security apprehensions.
Mobile telephony and mobile internet services remained suspended for the 15th day today.
Life in Kashmir has been paralysed since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces.
