The Delhi Commission for Women has issued notices to Delhi Police and Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in connection with complaints regarding detention of foreign nationals at a beggar home.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal along with her staff had last month conducted a surprise inspection at the beggar home in Nirmal Chhaya Complex here.
"We have received serious complaints from two ladies, one from Afghanistan and one from Nigeria. The Nigerian woman has alleged that she was brought to India by a fellow Nigerian lady on the promise of employment who along with four boys abducted her and tried to force her into prostitution.
"The Afghan woman told us that her husband was killed in 2009 by the Taliban after which she came to India in 2010 with her three children on a six-month visa. She was kept in detention in the beggar home for a week last month," a DCW official said.
The DCW has issued a notice to Delhi Police seeking information on action taken on the complaint of the Nigerian woman, and steps taken to recover her wages.
"Another notice has been issued to FRRO seeking information on the action taken to ensure the woman's safe deportation (to Nigeria) and reasons for non-registration of an FIR in the matter," the official added.
Last month, the DCW had issued notices to the Delhi government over the "horrific" conditions at a beggar home where the inmates, including foreigners, were alleging violation of basic human rights and racial discrimination.
It had sought to know how the foreign nationals landed up there.
