"This is among the first of such achievements in Metro construction so far as Delhi Metro is poised to repeat more such achievements in its Phase III project which is slated to be completed by 2016," a DMRC official said.
The elevated viaducts of Phase III project will pass over the existing viaducts of the Phase I and Phase II metro corridors at four more different locations.
The viaduct of the Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar corridor will pass over Airport Express Line at Dhaula Kuan.
The Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar corridor viaduct will pass over Line III of Dwarka Sector 21 to NOIDA City Centre at Mayur Vihar.
At Anand Vihar, viaduct of the Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar corridor will pass over Line IV of Yamuna Bank - Vaishali.
"Construction for crossing over of Metro viaduct at the existing Karkarduma Metro station was never an easy task for the Metro engineers. It posed numerous challenges to the civil engineers throughout the project as this is one of the highest crossings of Metro line," the official said.
"Delhi Metro has crossed the existing Metro line at such a height in a very safe and systematic manner with all safety precautions in place. The launching of girder and erection of span was carried out in a very watchful manner with extra precaution," the official assured.
According to DMRC official, an extensive round-the-clock CCTV monitoring was done adjacent to the rail track to avoid any signs of electrocution and fall of material during crossing.
