The city's first incubation centre will be set up at the Delhi Emporium here to aid a "significant number of entrepreneurs", the government said today.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia approved the incubation/innovation centre that will be housed in the emporium premises located on the Baba Kharag Marg in central Delhi.
"Need has been felt for making available the necessary infrastructure to set up a community-led incubator which will aid a significant number of entrepreneurs, as compared to regular incubators, which focus on 40-50 start-ups and innovators at a time," the Delhi government said in a statement.
The idea of setting up an incubation centre in Delhi was developed during the Innovation Summit in Hyderabad in November last year, which was attended by Sisodia, along with Industries minister Satyendar Jain and senior officials.
Sisodia said the Delhi Emporium has ample space to accommodate the Incubation Centre, and it is ideally located centrally to attract young entrepreneurs easily.
Delhi being the national capital and centre of economic, social, educational and technological activities is ideally placed or developing itself as a major centre for innovation and start-up culture, it said.
