Demanding removal of the Chairman and the Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, a group of students today clashed with policemen and set an official vehicle on fire.
Local administration blamed BJP leaders of instigating the students, who were also demanding a CBI probe into alleged corruption in the panel.
Later, a number of persons, including a local BJP leader were arrested in connection with the incident.
"We have taken a strong note of the behaviour of the BJP MLA who, along with his supporters, will face stern action for disturbing public order," Senior Superintendent of Police of Allahabad Umesh Srivastava told reporters.
Meanwhile, reacting to district police chief's charge, BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh told PTI over phone from Delhi "our party stands by its support to the young students who have been driven against the wall and hence are agitated".
"It is known to all that the UPPSC has in the recent past acted in the most non-transparent manner, a glaring example of which was introducing three-tier reservation system, which it had to hastily revoke.
"We wonder whom is the state government trying to protect by refusing to order a CBI inquiry as demanded by the students," he said.
