The Supreme Court today refused to grant urgent hearing to a plea seeking quashing of the Centre's November 8 notification demonetising Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes on various grounds, including that political parties and religious institutions have not been allowed to deposit the old notes in banks.
"We cannot hear demonetisation issue every day," a bench of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice A R Dave said and asked the petitioner to come on November 25 when the other pleas against the notification would come up for hearing.
In his plea, advocate M L Sharma has claimed that the new Rs 2000 currency notes were "fake" as it "changes colour" once it is washed.
The plea alleged that political parties, NGOs, temples, mosques, churches, gurudwaras were not allowed to deposit the old currency notes after the notification came into effect.
It claimed that due to "incompetent systems" adopted by the government, citizens have been suffering.
