400 stolen mobile phones recovered, two arrested

Around 400 stolen mobile phones, worth around Rs 75 lakh, have been recovered from two persons who allegedly used to resell them after tampering with their IMEI numbers with the help of flasher devices, police said today.
Mohammad Shafi (34) and Wasim (29) were arrested from old iron bridge in Daryaganj area on a secret information on the night of November 8 and a total of 401 mobiles have been recovered from them, DCP (Central) Delhi, Mandeep Singh Randhawa said.
During interrogation, Shafi said he owns a mobile repairing shop at Gali Choti Baradari in Ballimaran, were he used to buy stolen mobile phones and resell it after tampering IMEI numbers with the help of flasher devices, the officer said.
Shafi, alongwith his associates, used to tamper the devices at a rented room in Gali Badriyan in Chandni Mahal.
During the search of the house, a total of 151 mobile phones were recovered, he said.
Interrogation of Wasim led to recovery of 250 stolen mobiles. He used to purchase and sell stolen mobile phones at Meena Bazar near Jama Masjid, the officer said.
Police has also recovered four flasher devices and a laptop that were used to tamper with IMEI number.
