A delegation of Dera Sacha Sauda followers today lodged a protest with senior Punjab Police officials over alleged inaction against those involved in the attack on them during a religious congregation at Dhudike village in the district.
A two-member panel of Dera Saucha Sauda -- Mohinderpal Bittu and Gurdeep Singh -- apprised IG police (Bathinda Zone) Paramraj Singh Umaranangal, DIG (Ferozepur range) Yurinder Singh, and Faridkot SSP Narinderpal Singh of the alleged police inaction against those involved in the violent attack on members of the sect yesterday.
"An FIR has been lodged against about 20 named 70 to 80 unidentified accused, but no action has so far been taken by police," the Dera panel told police officers.
Meanwhile, the senior police officers assured the Dera members that police are investigating the whole mater minutely and the results will be out within next three to four days. "Those involved in the clash will not be spared at any cost," Umaranangal said.
A clash took place between Dera Sacha Sauda followers and villagers, mostly owing allegiance to radical Sikh outfits, over a religious congregation here yesterday, forcing police to fire in the air and use mild force to bring the situation under control.
Dera followers had reached the grain market of Dhudike village here to hold their scheduled 'Naam Charcha' congregation when a mob of over 200 people shouted slogans against them, which led to the clash with both groups pelting stones at each other, police said.
