"In fact, at Doha, governments have reiterated their commitment to craft and operationalise mechanisms to implement the decisions that were taken in Durban," the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said in a release here.

"This is clearly good news and will ensure that the climate negotiations at Doha will put the wheels in motion for a new chapter," the CII said.

It said that decisions regarding the Kyoto Protocol as well as clarity on the sources of funding and scaling up the finances available to developing countries are expected to be the key deliverables of the meeting.

The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that set binding obligations on industrialised countries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.

The CII said that there was a need to decide on the mechanism for operating the Kyoto Protocol, provide clarity on financing from the Green Climate Fund and chalk out a roadmap on technology transfers in Doha.

These, along with other measures, will play a critical role in laying the foundation for the roadmap to combat climate change, it said.

A CII delegation comprising Arun Kanchan Sharma, Moser Baer, Sunand Sharma, Arunavo Mukherjee, P R Shukla and Seema Arora is attending the conference.
